On the afternoon of April 18th SRPD Officers went to serve an arrest warrant on a suspect who had previously threaten the peace and safety of the city, with grenades that later turned out to be very convincing replicas.
After having gained entrance to the suspects apartment, the officers quickly came under fire from a shot gun while attempting to arrest her. One of the Officers were shot at close range in the face and later died in hospital from the wounds sustained.
Another two officers returned fire, during which the suspect suffered two GSW's, she however remained on her feet, despite this and the two officers were physically attacked by the suspect. After eventually getting her under control and secured, she was arrested and removed to SRGH where she remains under police guard.
The Officers on scene were all wearing a body cameras and were experience Officers. They have been placed under an Internal Affairs Investigation with SRV Court as per normal procedure in these situations and are on restricted duties, while this investigation takes place. In line with safety procedures and protocol the names of the Officers involved are not being released at present and no further information will be released by the Santa Ramona Police Department at this time.
