On the Evening of Saturday Jan 26th 19, Officers of SRPD and a civilian Social Worker who had been assisting in their investigation, had been investigating a Missing Person case. A K9 unit was used to follow the man's scent.
Officers were led to an old industrial building in Rookery Street. After the K9 indicated that the scent went inside and on finding the building locked they called in backup. On breaching the building the Officers found the Missing Person inside close to death and being sexually assaulted by a male.
The Officers ordered the male to immediately desist. The male failed to comply. All of them repeated the orders, the male still failed to desist. An Officer then discharged two rounds. One of which hit the male in his shoulder, the other in his chest.
The male was then arrested on charges of Attempted Murder, Rape,False Imprisonment,Kidnapping and Failure to comply with a Lawful Order. The Officers on scene and the civilian Social Work administered Emergency Aid to both the victim and the male suspect until EMT's arrived to take over.
Both suspect and the victim were taken to SRGH. At time of printing the victim is in stable but critical condition. The suspect was placed under police guard until he can be transfer to SRPD custody.
Two of the Officers on scene were wearing body cameras.
The Officer involved in the shooting has been with SRPD for sometime and has a lot of experience. His name is being withheld at this time.
At the time of printing the Officer is under an Internal Affairs Investigation with SRV Court as per normal procedure in these situations and is on restricted duties. No further information will be released by the Santa Ramona Police Department at this time.
